Textiles and Torah -- Two areas of halakha, shatnez (forbidden mixtures of linen and wool) and tekhelet (the blue string on the tzitzit), have both recently merited increased awareness in the Jewish world. Shatnez labs have sprung up in many Jewish areas, allowing many more to avoid unknowingly transgressing this prohibition. Tekhelet, a mitzva out of practice for over 1500 years, has had a resurgence, as some have claimed to rediscover the source of the blue dye. Find out about both through the links below.
