Student
Activities
Special Community
Service Program
One afternoon per week, Midreshet Rachel v'Chaya
students put their learning into action
by participating in their chosen community service projects.
These projects range from working with children from
disadvantaged families to answering phones on a crisis
counseling hot line. Each student works with our community
service/chesed coordinator to find a placement that
is right for her. Periodic seminars on issues raised
by these projects give the participants an opportunity
to discuss and grow from their experiences.
Tiyulim
Monthly
study tours open us up to a side of the Land of Israel
most tourists never experience. Expert guides make the
Torah come alive as, Tanach in hand, they take us to
the scene of biblical events. They help us deepen our
understanding of Jewish history in a way no classroom
session would. Tiyulim strengthen our connection with
the Land of Israel as well as with each other. Of course,
we keep to the highest standards of security.
Shabbatonim
Several times a year, the whole
student body, including
spouses, children, and some staff members, spend a Shabbat
together -- sometimes in Jerusalem and sometimes in
a community outside of it. These special Shabbatot
are opportunities to enjoy each other's company as a
community, to meet staff members and their families
in an informal setting, and to see a new side of Israel.
They are often devoted to exploring an aspect of Torah
in a way only possible in a Shabbat atomsphere.
Simchas
Every Midreshet Rachel v'Chaya wedding, Sheva Brachot,
Vort, Shabbat Kallah, and Tichel party is a family celebration.
Each brings a special feeling to the school for weeks
in advance. We not only learn, but also dance, sing,
and celebrate together. Classes in topics like "Eishet
Chayil," "Joy in Chassidut," "Interpersonal
Relationships," and "The Jewish Life Cycle"
come alive when integrated with a real-life simcha.
